Morten Schantz is a pianist, composer and bandleader born 1980 in Aarhus, Denmark.
In January 2017 he released his first international album, “Godspeed”, on Edition Records, to great critical acclaim all over the world. This is his 10th album having previously released 4 as a soloist and 5 with JazzKamikaze. Schantz has won several awards based on his work with JazzKamikaze where he is the primary songwriter as well as receiving two grammy nominations for his solo work, most recently as “Jazz Composer of the Year” for “Morten Schantz: Unicorn”.
A founder member of the award-winning pan-Scandinavian group JazzKamikaze, Schantz hits with a fantastic new band featuring two long-term collaborators in drum wizard Anton Eger (Sweden) and jazz phenomenon, Marius Neset (Norway) on saxophones.
With ‘Godspeed’ the trio idiosyncratically stamp their bold imprint on the music in typically dynamic and imperious fashion creating music full of euphoric riffs and blissful melodic hooks.
Utilising an impressive array of electronics with all the predictable skill and virtuosity at their command this trio generate some of the most vibrant music to burst onto the European jazz scene in recent times.
Morten Schantz has toured all over the world with his solo projects and JazzKamikaze in the following countries: Denmark, Germany, Poland, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Holland, France, Italy, Spain, Croatia, Luxembourg, Belgium, Lithuania, Hungary, UK, Ireland, Faroe Islands, USA, Brazil, Thailand, Malaysia, China, Moldova, Tanzania, Morocco and Russia.

“Extraordinary achievement …The last decade was characterized by jazz-rock reminiscences, but mostly it was missing animal energy and originality. I salute Schantz – “Godspeed” as that rare exception”
“Schantz’s layers of pianos and synths are an atmospheric sounding board for a tight, interactive trio completed by Marius Neset’s virtuosic sax and the pounding thump of Anton Eger’s drums. Rigorous structures focus mood while leaving ample room for the musicians to stretch out.”
